- ➤ Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville is reorganizing its academic units into four colleges effective July 1 to improve department collaboration and clarify roles for better student learning — the school will also open a new center for engagement in the fall to provide easier access to academic, financial, and career support services. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local law enforcement agencies will gather during National Police Week to honor officers killed in the line of duty in Northwest Missouri. The memorial service will begin at 5:00 p.m. on May 14 at the Northwest Missouri Law Enforcement Officers Memorial — in Civic Center Park at 1100 Frederick Avenue where Lexi Dekraai Ussary, daughter of fallen officer Dan Dekraai, will speak. - ➤ At a recent city council work session, leaders heard from fire, police and health departments on past successes and plans for fiscal year 2026—fire is asking for more funds to boost training, police will upgrade equipment using CIP and ARPA funds, and health will modernize facilities and plan a new animal shelter opening in summer—and the council will meet again on May 13 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. KQ2
