EDUCATION NEWS

  • More than 400 graduates will be honored Saturday at Missouri Western State University’s MWSU Fieldhouse, with Science and Health students recognized at 11 a.m. and other divisions at 3 p.m.—Leslie McMillin will speak and pinning ceremonies for respiratory therapy and nursing begin at 8 and 8:30 a.m. respectively.  St. Joseph Post
  • St. Joseph School District will shift its Early Education Centers to a four-day model with half-day sessions starting next school year after board approval and teacher feedback. The change is expected to save $1.1 million (from fiscal reviews) and gives teachers more time for planning.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local law enforcement agencies will honor fallen officers at a National Police Week Memorial Service on Wednesday, May 13 at 5 p.m. in Civic Center Park near City Hall at 1100 Frederick Ave — the service will move indoors if inclement weather occurs.  St. Joseph Post
  • State officials have investigated one of the largest national data breaches, with Director Angela Nelson saying millions of records were exposed between fall 2024 and January; Conduent sent letters with identity theft tips to help Missourians protect their information.  St. Joseph Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • April’s health inspections in Saint Joseph revealed a mix of critical and non-critical issues at local eateries and stores, with breaches ranging from undercooked food to improper labeling and many violations corrected on site (e.g. HS Mart, El Maguey, and Burger King).  St. Joseph Post
