EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lanham Music will host Rock Camp from June 16 to 21 for young musicians in St. Joseph; the camp will let participants join bands, learn songs, and record music with a professional producer. The final day will feature all bands performing at Café Acoustic—continuing a 2012 tradition that nurtures local talent.  KQ2
  • Missouri Western State University opened the Houlne Center for Convergent Technology on the St. Joseph campus to train students in modern manufacturing, engineering, and cyber security—linking classroom lessons to hands-on shop floor work using equipment that simulates real job conditions.  St. Joseph Post
  • Hyde Elementary School hosted Family Literacy Day today — kindergarten students read from a book they created by writing pages about what they want to be when they grow up — as families gathered to support their reading and public speaking skills.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Councilmember Jason Eslinger has sent a survey to 4,000 residents asking them to choose the city's top priorities such as roads, pools, or trash service.   • Buchanan County and the Sheriff's Office received the Missouri Blue Shield designation from the Department of Public Safety— a program started by Gov. Kehoe that honors strong efforts to keep the community safe.
