ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 3:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, a two-vehicle accident occurred at 28th and Jules when a Honda ran a red light and collided with an Outlander—whose driver was taken by ambulance to Mosaic Hospital with unknown injuries.  KQ2

CRIME NEWS

  • Police said a person suffered a moderate pelvic wound and had to go to the hospital when a shooting occurred at a residence on Calhoun—North 23rd in St. Joseph Monday afternoon, and they are continuing to investigate the incident.  St. Joseph Post
  • Local law enforcement warns residents to ignore calls from scammers who claim to be with the sheriff’s office and threaten jail time if cash is not paid—officials stress using verified numbers to confirm such calls and advise never to share personal information over the phone.  St. Joseph Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Joseph School District is asking the community for feedback after its Proposition 2 bond measure failed on April 8; district officials are urging residents to complete a 10-question survey (which takes about two minutes) to explain the measure's defeat, with responses due by May 7.  KQ2
  • The St. Joseph School District Board of Education will begin accepting applications on Tuesday to fill the seat left vacant by Rick Gehring’s resignation. Applicants must meet strict requirements and deliver all documents by 4:00 p.m. on May 13 at the district’s Central Office (1415 N. 26th Street, Door #5).  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri lawmakers passed a bill Monday that exempts long-term capital gains from state income tax and boosts the circuit breaker credit for low-income seniors and people with disabilities—after a 92 to 58 vote, the measure now awaits a final Senate vote and Gov. Mike Kehoe’s signature.  St. Joseph Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • The City of St. Joseph Health Department + the Buchanan County Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention hosted a free movie night at Trail Theater on April 29 for National Fentanyl Awareness Day; doors opened at 6:30 p.m. for vendor tables before Beautiful Boy began screening at 7:00 p.m. to raise awareness about fentanyl risks.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Kansas City Royals won 3-1 over the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday at George M. Steinbrenner Field by scoring early and keeping the Rays quiet with runners in scoring position. Local prospect Noah Cameron will make his MLB debut today at 6:05 p.m. + he is set for a spot start in place of the injured Cole Ragans as the series continues.  St. Joseph Post
