- ➤ Northwest Missouri Master Gardener's will host their annual plant sale at the University of Missouri Extension office (4125 Mitchell Avenue) with a large selection of tomato and pepper varieties, several eggplant types, herbs and milkweed for pollinators. The sale runs Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. KQ2
- ➤ The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce will bring back the live concert series Parties on the Parkway along the 26-mile parkway system this summer, starting on May 8 at southwest parkway and King Hill Drive with The Dirty Bourbon Band playing country music — future concerts on June 12, July 10, August 14 and September 11 will offer different musical styles to encourage locals to explore new parts of the city. - ➤ Three people were injured when a 2019 Toyota Corolla driven by a 90-year-old woman collided with a westbound 2019 Toyota Sequoia on MO 31 near U.S. 36 in DeKalb County just before 5 p.m. Tuesday—causing one vehicle to hit a highway sign and resulting in all three being taken to Mosaic in St. Joseph. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Western State University will stop housing students in Juda and Beshears residence halls in fiscal year 2026 because maintenance costs exceeded $2.7 million—approved by the Board on February 24. The university will replace the halls with new landscaping around the commons and move students to other residence halls as Leaverton Hall resumes housing in fall. KQ2

- ➤ NOAA lost hundreds of employees due to federal workforce cuts — leaving local weather offices with less data needed to keep forecasts accurate in rural areas like northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. Meteorologists warn that this reduction may degrade forecast quality and urge residents to contact their Congress members to help protect NOAA. KQ2
- ➤ Congressman Sam Graves said today that the newly signed E-BRIDGE Act—named for Eliminating Barriers to Rural Internet Development Grant Eligibility—will fund grants to help communities install the costly last mile of fiber optic cable needed for high-speed internet in rural areas, and he compared the effort to past work that brought electricity and phone service to these regions.
