COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Southside Sertoma Club of St. Joseph visited the Cameron Veterans Home to honor veterans with a homemade fish and chips meal as part of a nearly decade-long tradition. The club says it will serve its world-famous tenderloin at the Castle Bridge Event Center on May 18 for its annual community fundraiser.  KQ2
  • The Parties on the Parkway 2025 schedule has been released and free summer concerts will take place every second Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. along the parkway at different locations, featuring acts such as The Dirty Bourbon Band on May 8 (rain date May 15), Jason and Brandon Duo on June 12 (rain date June 19), Fast Times on July 10 (rain date July 17), Saint Joseph Symphony on August 14 (rain date August 21) and Soca Jukebox on September 11 while some food and beverage vendors operate cash only.  KQ2
  • The Friends of the Animal Shelter launched a Spay & Neuter Assistance Program to help pet owners in St. Joseph get their animals fixed and ease shelter overcrowding. Board member LeeAnn Fell said the program, which requires local residency and pet ownership and offers an optional co-pay, aims to reach an 80% spay & neuter rate in the community.  KQ2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 24-year-old Hamilton man was injured when his 2025 Peterbilt semi overturned on the north side of MO 113 near Mound City just after 9 a.m. Thursday—Atchison-Holt ambulance took him to Mosaic in St. Joseph.  St. Joseph Post

BUSINESS NEWS

  • B&B Runway Café reopened its doors at the new terminal of Rosecrans Memorial Airport after the building was completed. Owner Jillian Parisoff introduced new menu options and more space for events, and starting Monday, April 28 the café will operate Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (customers are asked to park in the lot across the road to keep the front space available for mobility needs).  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • An Arts Fund drive in St. Joseph is set to raise $220,000 for seven local arts groups. Chair Melody Smith said the campaign—named Now is the Time—is meant to boost support for local arts and show how art spending helps the community's economy.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph City Council chose local attorney Laura Chavez (a St. Joseph native and ten-year Municipal Court prosecutor) to fill the Municipal Court Judge vacancy after Judge Ted Elo passed in March. Her appointment will be formally confirmed at the April 28 meeting and remain in effect until the general municipal election in April 2026 (pending an emergency ordinance vote).  KQ2
  • St. Joseph city officials have mailed out about 4,000 surveys to residents to ask for feedback on services like code enforcement, streets, and abandoned buildings. City Manager Mike Schumacher said the survey answers will guide future decisions—helping set the top three priorities for improvements.  St. Joseph Post
  • Buchanan County is replacing its (50-year-old) storm sirens to help keep local residents safe during severe weather season. County officials explained the upgrades in an interview with KQ2 Meteorologist Vanessa Alonso as viewers tuned in Friday after KQ2 News at 6 for a special report.  KQ2
