BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Schneitter Fireworks and Importing Co. in St. Joseph fought a tariff increase on April 9 that raised rates to 125% and led many suppliers to pause orders. Co-owner Stacy Schneitter Blake said the business will use a voter voice platform—inviting locals to contact their senators—to fight these tariffs going forward. KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews will close one lane on Walter Welsh Avenue in front of City Hall starting today after 8:00 a.m. to complete masonry work, and visitors must use the south entrance while the front steps remain closed but the ADA accessible ramp stays open. KQ2
- ➤ Rick Gehring resigned from the St. Joseph School Board during Monday's reorganization meeting because he said he had a hard time staying on the board and wanted to protect his peace. - ➤ City Manager Mike Schumacher said recent retirements and new hires have prompted staff reassignments at City Hall—new roles include a finance director and a communications person focused on clear public messaging. KQ2
- ➤ The City of St. Joseph began work Monday to restore the iconic Pony Express Statue—crews removed it to replace its granite base with a new 23-ton one built by Brooner Construction and planned to set it back once the base is ready.
