- ➤ Todd Cooper, owner of Twilight Gardens, used his sign on April Fools’ Day to honor longtime friend John Elliot from John's Quick Lube who passed away a few weeks ago—displaying the message 'Honoring John Today, Honk & Show the Quick Lube Guys Love.' Jonathan Elliot now runs John's Quick Lube at the Mitchell Ave and 22nd Street intersection. KQ2
- ➤ Today, community members are invited to the Crime Victim Memorial at Remington Nature Center—located in the southeast corner of the parking lot—where attendees can place a stone with a loved one's name as the event begins at 5:30 p.m. KQ2
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A St. Joseph man was charged with first-degree sodomy after a seven-year-old girl (the alleged victim) told police that her uncle, James D. Dennis, assaulted her in an outside shed (according to court documents) and he is set to appear in court today at 8:30 a.m. KQ2
- ➤ Melanie Myers pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery for her role in the November 10th killing of Dustin Allen Graham in St. Joseph and was sentenced to 15 years in prison by Buchanan County Circuit Judge Daniel Kellogg; co-defendant Brian Helm faces trial for second-degree murder later this month. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The St. Joseph Museums will host its largest annual fundraiser, 'Rewind: A Time-Traveling Soiree to Lake Contrary,' on May 30 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Country Club at 50 Ridgeland Road — the event will feature Lotus Club games, historical reenactors, a traditional Lotus Club menu, entertainment, and a virtual recreation of Lake Contrary Amusement Park while ticket prices are $100 and table sponsorships cost $750 to support museum educational outreach programs. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday, St. Joseph voters rejected the school district’s Proposition 2 with 6,081 votes against and 5,262 in favor—if passed, the plan would have built a new $150 million high school south of U.S. 36. With the measure failing, the district will keep Central and Lafayette as the town's two high schools. KQ2
