COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Krug Park in St. Joseph is set for a long-term facelift that will turn the Krug Bowl into a festival space with a new garden theater seating a few hundred after removing the amphitheater and stadium seating. Renovations will begin June 1 and include updated electrical, sewer, concession stand and restroom upgrades, with the children’s circus area moving to create a more intimate venue for local shows, weddings and small performances — Friends of Krug Park say the changes will make the park more versatile.  KQ2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A head-on collision occurred Tuesday just before 4:30 p.m. on U.S. 169 in Trimble when a Honda Civic driven by a 19-year-old from Liberty crossed the center lane and struck a Chevy Cobalt, and Tri-County EMS transported the 34-year-old driver to Mosaic Life Care—both drivers were properly restrained.  St. Joseph Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Platte County deputies arrested Aurora man Kyle Fogarty Tuesday morning after stopping his Toyota pickup near an Interstate 29 rest area south of Dearborn and a search of his vehicle discovered over 125.8 grams of suspected ketamine, 1.5 grams of suspected cocaine, $126,735, a 2.21 carat diamond, and two one-ounce gold bars.  KQ2
  • A driver in a Chevy Malibu struck a Dodge Journey at 6:47 p.m. near Noyes and Messanie and then hit a tree near North 22nd Street and Newport Road after a call at 7:34 p.m.—his car caught fire and he was later taken into custody while police investigate the hit-and-run incident.  KQ2

  • The 47th annual Pot of Gold Arts Gala and Auction—set for April 26 at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art—will have an elegant dinner and auction with items donated by local businesses and artists to raise funds for the museum. Local supporters may sponsor tables or donate items to further support the museum's programs.  St. Joseph Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation will launch its first birding competition from May 1-15 to help birders count migrating birds. Contestants will pay a small fee for conservation and must complete an online webinar.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph School Board candidates filed their final campaign finance reports eight days ahead of the April 8 election as six candidates sought two open board seats. Four candidates who received over $500 disclosed details to the Missouri Ethics Commission with Brian Kirk raising $14,235.75, Kim Miller $11,935, Jennifer Kerns $9,049.67, and Cassandra Veale $6,704.10 while Kenneth Reeder filed a limited report for a Buchanan County R-IV School District position and James Mrkvicka did not file a committee because his totals were under $250.  KQ2
