ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ St. Joseph Police Chief Paul Luster warned motorists and motorcycle riders to stay alert following a fatal crash that claimed the life of a young man earlier this month—he advised drivers to check blind spots and urged riders to wear helmets and high-visibility gear. - ➤ A study found that if proposed cuts to Medicaid and SNAP take effect, Missouri and Kansas could see nearly 30,000 jobs lost—Missouri could lose up to 22,000 jobs and Kansas about 5,600—with billions in federal funds at stake. - ➤ The St. Joseph School District narrowed its search for a new high school site south of Highway 36 for a school under Proposition 2 on the April 8 ballot. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ St. Joseph City Council passed a resolution today to support the school district's proposition 2 bond issue for a new high school complex and facility improvements ahead of the April 8 ballot. Board of Education President LaTonya Williams said the unanimous vote was vital after the proposal was pulled from the agenda on March 17 — council members revisited and approved it today. KQ2
- ➤ Kenny Cordonnier—St. Joseph's fire chief—will retire on April 4 after more than 43 years of service with the city. He began working in September 1981 and oversaw fire station 8 and the initial plans for fire station 10 as well as upgrades to the fire headquarters. KQ2
