CRIME NEWS
- ➤ St. Joseph police responded at 10:30 a.m. Thursday to an armed carjacking near 6th and Hall streets and began a chase when the car did not stop, with shots fired during the pursuit that ended near 28th and Mitchell when one suspect was hit by gunfire and pronounced dead while another was taken into custody and a third treated and released—an investigation is underway. - ➤ Salon 1027 on Frederick Avenue in downtown St. Joseph was damaged when a police chase led to a suspect firing at officers just after 11:00 a.m. Thursday — a bullet shattered the salon's window and lodged in a chair, though no one was hurt and business owners say the incident is isolated. KQ2

- ➤ The Patee House Museum and Jesse James Home are seeking volunteers who can spend a few hours a week greeting guests and sharing stories to help preserve St. Joseph’s rich history — no experience is needed. The Patee House Museum, located at 202 Penn Street, expects helpers to support daily operations and keep these historic sites engaging for visitors — the effort aims to secure our town’s heritage for the future. - ➤ Works of artist Waylande Gregory, who designed the ornamentation for City Hall and the Missouri Theatre, will be on display at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art beginning in June as part of the centennial celebration—curated with locally collected pieces—and a second exhibit with pieces on loan will be shown next year—further highlighting his legacy. - ➤ Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey said no excuse absentee voting opened earlier this week so residents can vote in person at the courthouse until April 7th.
