COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 20th Annual St. Joseph Polar Plunge held on March 22 at the Aquatic Center parking lot raised $28,500 for Special Olympics Missouri with 56 men and women taking the plunge. Organizers continue online fundraising and aim to raise an additional $9,500.  KQ2

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Goldberg Group Architects opened a new building at 210 Main Street—converted from a former cold storage and Nabisco facility—at a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce. The firm said the new space will help expand its operations and may spur further downtown renovations.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last weekend the Missouri Theater and the St. Joseph community chorus held a performance of Mozart's Requiem. Choristers from Benedictine College, led by conductor Timothy Tharaldson, will perform at the next symphony event on April 19.  KQ2
  • Country music singer Parker McCollum will perform at St. Joseph's Civic Arena on Thursday, October 9 in a fall event, and he will be joined by special guests Kameron Marlowe and Laci Kaye Booth—tickets will go on sale Friday at 10:00 a.m. following pre-sales that began Tuesday.  KQ2
  • Country music legend Randy Travis is set to bring his More Life Tour to the Missouri Theatre on Saturday, September 20, where he will perform with his touring band, his wife Mary Travis, and special guest vocalist James Dupre. Tickets cost between $45 and $75 and a VIP Meet + Greet including a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres will be offered one hour before the show.  KQ2

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A study by St. Joseph and the Chamber of Commerce found the city lacks about 3,000 middle-class homes which may slow economic growth—chamber president Natalie Hawn said city officials will review a plan in an April work session that proposes infill housing, revitalization, and reuse of over 1,000 vacant buildings to help close the gap.  St. Joseph Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three Missouri state representatives plan to propose House bills that will require school districts to offer free breakfast and lunch. The bills, now in committee, aim to help families in St. Joseph who live in food deserts and face stigma with government meal programs — a district board member said.  KQ2
  • On March 25, 2025, the SJSD Board of Education held a candidate forum where local residents asked questions ahead of the April 8 election for two board positions. Voters emphasized the need for careful spending—prioritizing students, teachers and community resources—and a forward-thinking plan to enhance school programs.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Police Department and Buchanan County Sheriff's Office held the 2025 Joint Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy which started Tuesday night with introductions from Chief Luster and Sheriff Puett—participants toured the facility and watched demos from canine handlers and detectives—classes run weekly until May 20.  KQ2
