COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missouri Western State University will host its fifth annual community cleanup, 'The Big Event,' on Sat, Mar. 28 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the Mark Twain Early Learning Center parking lot to clear litter and beautify the neighborhood near 29th and Lafayette + thank locals.  St. Joseph Post
  • Volunteers from Beautify St. Joseph will gather at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 28 at Coleman Hawkins Park to clean up downtown between Third and Ninth streets + from Faraon to Sylvanie. Cleanup efforts may extend to Civic Center Park if turnout is high.  St. Joseph Post
  • Saint Joseph will host its annual Spring Clean Sweep from April 1 to 7, offering free disposal of trash, yard waste, and appliances at the city landfill (if proof of residency is provided). Residents should review restrictions on the city’s website before taking part.  St. Joseph Post
  • Tuesday, community leaders gathered at 3601 N. Village Drive as the YMCA of St. Joseph broke ground for the new Mid-America National Aquatic Center — a facility featuring a 50-meter pool, swim lessons, and water aerobics that will open for public use in autumn 2027.  St. Joseph Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in St. Joseph can swap invasive Callery Pear trees for a free native tree at a Missouri Department of Conservation buyback event on April 21 from 3 to 6 p.m., and must register by April 16 on the department website (25 trees available).  St. Joseph Post
