- ➤ Krug Park renovations will start on June 1 and continue for three years to update the bowl, maintenance areas, and amphitheater as an event space. St. Joseph Parks and Recreation Assistant Director Jeff Atkins said the changes will not disrupt park use—visitors expect the updates will revitalize the community area. KQ2
- ➤ MidCity Excellence will host the M.O.V.E.: Men of Valor and Excellence Leadership Breakfast at the Green Acres Ballroom on April 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.—attendees will enjoy breakfast and roundtable talks on entrepreneurship, self-discipline and character building while donating gently used suits, jackets, ties and tuxedos for young men preparing for future events. - ➤ Barry Birr—who has hosted the KFEQ Hotline since 1984 and worked part-time after semi-retiring in 2015—announced his retirement this morning and said his final show will air Friday, March 28th. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ United Way of Greater St. Joseph announced the return of Taste of United Way, an event series connecting community members with its 17 partner agencies — with the first session titled 'The Caring Power of Community: The People, Programs, and Purpose of United Way.' The session will be held on Friday, March 28th at United Way, 118 South 5th Street with lunch served at 11:45 a.m. and the program starting at 12:00 p.m.—space is limited and registration is required. - ➤ The legendary Bindlestiff Family Cirkus will perform at the Missouri Theatre in April with a one-night show scheduled for Saturday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m. The Performing Arts Association announced the event (tickets are available online). KQ2
- ➤ The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art unveiled its latest exhibition 'Screen, Block, Plate, & Stone: Printmaking' that shows the history of printmaking with works by masters including Durer, Rembrandt, Goya, and Manet along with American artists like Catlin and Bingham. - ➤ The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office formed a new Special Operations Division to combine its Drug Strike Force, career criminal unit, and interdiction unit—Captain Shawn Collie said the change will let officers focus on targeted tasks to better combat crime. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ The new city manager said 77% of excavation work for Cell 8 at the landfill was complete—City Council approved a $1,208,940 ordinance that lets contractor M-Con add sand and clay while DNR approved extra space for the project. He said the liner was expected to be installed in the next four weeks. KQ2
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Community Blood Center in St. Joseph has urged donors because the local blood supply fell to a critical three-to-four day level—well below the ideal 7-10 day inventory needed for hospitals. Disruptions from winter storms, spring break travel and fewer school drives have worsened the shortage, and the center especially needs Type O donors (particularly O-negative for trauma cases). KQ2
