COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The YMCA has less than two months to raise $15 million needed to build its Community Aquatic Center in St. Joseph using naming rights and draft renderings to guide its plan (details from a recent update).  News-Press NOW

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcycle crashed at North Belt Highway and Beck Road Thursday afternoon near the Victory GMC dealership — police said the motorcyclist was seriously injured at the scene, taken to the hospital and later died.  KQ2
  • A 25-year-old man named Richard D. Henry was killed when a vehicle struck him while he crossed North Belt Highway near Karnes Road Wednesday night, and police said the incident appears accidental with the investigation ongoing.  KQ2

ECONOMY NEWS

  • St. Joseph will soon get a new manufacturing facility at 2202 Alabama Street in Stockyards Industrial Park where Nortian Foodtech LLC, a Brazilian firm that turns meat by-products into collagen, expects to create over 100 jobs and begin operations by year end + local leaders say the expansion will boost the economy.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Public Library invites teens (ages 12-18) to learn about Greek myths and create crafts during Mythological Makes Week. The event takes place each day of spring break at the Downtown Library at 2 p.m. with registration required.  KQ2
  • Missouri Western State University will work with UMKC to build a dental clinic on campus in St. Joseph—this $12 million renovation project will serve community members, employees and students while helping graduates remain in rural areas. President Kennedy said funding is key and stressed the program will expand local healthcare services.  St. Joseph Post
