- ➤ The YMCA of St. Joseph, in partnership with local agencies, will hold a groundbreaking at 1:00 p.m. on Mar. 24 at the Campus Family YMCA (3601 N. Village Drive) to begin constructing a 49,000 sqft indoor aquatic center serving families, competitive athletes, schools, and seniors. St. Joseph Post
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The annual Pot of Gold Gala & Auction, the museum’s largest fundraiser, is set for April 25 at the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art with organizers seeking donations from local sponsors for auction items. Its theme celebrates Route 66’s 100th anniversary, the nation’s 250th anniversary, and the museum’s 60th anniversary. St. Joseph Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Griffon Media from Missouri Western State University earned three national honors at the College Media Association Spring Convention (March 4-7). The student-led team took second place for Best News Website in Division III, while individual students received national recognition for multimedia and photography. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ The Missouri House passed bills to improve elementary literacy and reduce teacher training requirements. The literacy measure will screen K-3 students for reading deficiencies and require extra help, while another bill lets local school boards set training after three years. St. Joseph Post
