  • Makinze, a mom of five, completed the Pivotal Point transitional program and now works full time while seeing her children more often, with help from local volunteers (supporting grocery assistance) boosting her fresh start.  KQ2
  • The Chamber is hosting two ribbon-cutting events today: Moony’s Coffee holds its grand opening at 9:30 a.m. at 510 Edmond St and Commerce Trust marks its move at noon at 3303 Ashland Ave.  St. Joseph Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Missouri Western State University’s Gallery in Spratt Hall (Room 211) is hosting the 'Horizons' print exhibit featuring works from the Eickhorst Print Collection through May 1. A free opening reception will take place on Feb. 19 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.  St. Joseph Post
  • The St. Joseph Black Archives will host a Hall of Fame induction on Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. at its museum at 3406 Frederick Ave to honor Julie Vaughn, Doyle Irvin, Jr. and posthumous honoree Georgia Tivis for their service + contributions to our city's history.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Missouri Western State University President Elizabeth Kennedy joined community leaders and students in Jefferson City last week at Great Northwest Days to ask for an extra $4 million in state funding as the school struggles with low appropriations. The event gave students a chance to see government at work.  St. Joseph Post
  • The St. Joseph School District approved a one-year contract extension for superintendent McGinnis on Thursday, extending his term through June 30, 2029 (vote details pending a Sunshine request).  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Northwest Missouri reported 1,881 flu cases as high influenza activity forced St. Joseph Christian School to close on Wednesday and Thursday because of illness among students + staff.  KQ2
