- ➤ St. Joseph Restaurant Week begins February 23 and runs until March 1 to help local eateries beat the slow winter season — the event will offer special menu options and give residents a chance to suggest new dishes. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ United Way of St. Joseph held its annual meeting yesterday at the Fulkerson Center at Missouri Western State University — board retirements, new leadership with chair Doug Walter, and a $2.4 million campaign were highlighted to boost local efforts. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Truman Middle School (3227 Olive St.) will host the Buchanan County Spelling Bee on Saturday, Feb. 7, with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. and 85 spellers from 20 schools set to compete for a spot in the regional finals. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ MoDOT will upgrade traffic lights at the Belt & Messanie intersection starting Monday the 16th until March 8th. Belt traffic remains open while Messanie drivers lose access to the Belt. St. Joseph Post
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Health Department in St. Joseph warns that a potent opioid (7-OH) is being sold at gas stations and convenience stores, and it poses high risks of addiction and overdose. Residents are urged to talk with a healthcare provider about these dangers. KQ2
