  • On Wednesday at Civic Arena, over 80 Parks and Rec employees from Northwest Missouri tested their skills in a Maintenance Rodeo with tasks like forklift operation, trailer towing, and nail-hammering — one of three statewide contests to decide which parks department will earn the trophy.  KQ2
  • Former Pony Express Therapy Dogs executive director Bill Luce, a lifelong St. Joseph teacher who used storytelling plus therapy dogs to bring joy to local students and nursing home residents, passed away on Jan. 15. His legacy lives on in the community he always cherished.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Barron Ryan, a world-renowned pianist, will perform a Valentine’s concert at Missouri Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 7:30 p.m., with a complimentary wine tasting (setting the stage for a romantic evening) planned for local date-night patrons.  St. Joseph Post

  • Mid-Buchanan R-V Elementary Librarian Mary Kelly received the Northwest Region Elementary School Librarian of the Year award after more than a decade of inspiring students at Mid-Buchanan Elementary, with peer nominations reflecting her dedication.  KQ2

  • Great Northwest Day will be held Feb 3 & 4 in Jefferson City as regional leaders gather to discuss legislative priorities such as rural health care, child care, education, housing and tax reform; the event also includes panel discussions, a citizen award and a reception.  St. Joseph Post
