COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Joseph TCG Mania will bring the trading card game community together at the Knights of Columbus building on March 7 and 8, featuring vendors with Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh and other TCG products while excluding sports cards and offering early admission for $1 before 10:00 a.m.  KQ2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife biologist Darrin Welchert (with 25 years of experience) counts thousands of birds weekly at Loess Bluffs Wildlife Refuge to track wetland health and eagle and waterfowl trends. The count helps locals plan visits and hunting trips.  KQ2
  • The Missouri River Bird Observatory presented at East Hills Library, teaching residents simple ways to help local birds including drinking shade-grown coffee, keeping cats indoors, and using bird-friendly windows. Kaylee Woelfel said education is key to turning awareness into action.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The renamed Dream Classic fills the Civic Arena this weekend with nearly twice as many gymnasts from several states. Day three begins today at 9:00 a.m., continuing a 40-year legacy in a renovated downtown venue — a celebration of local talent.  KQ2
  • Saturday, Jan. 17 saw MoWest women win 86-69 against Nebraska-Kearney while Mia Morel scored 39 points as the men's team added an 89-80 victory & the Griffons will face Central Missouri in Warrensburg on Wednesday, Jan. 21.  KQ2
  • Benton Cardinals captured their tournament title on Saturday afternoon at their home floor in St. Joseph by defeating Van Horn 66-37 with an 8-0 run and a 29-point margin. Senior Lincoln Goodwin reached 1,500 career points during the game+ marking a key milestone for the team.  KQ2
  • The Central Indians boys basketball team rebounded from Thursday’s loss by defeating East Buchanan 46-31 on Saturday to claim the tournament’s third-place trophy. They will face Park Hill South on Tuesday.  KQ2
