COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Fire Department Captain Mykie May was named the 2026 Kindness Keeper by Noyes Home for Children and will be honored at the Kindness St. Joseph event in late March at the Fulkerson Center (on the campus of Missouri Western State University).  KQ2
  • The AFL-CIO Adopt-A-Family Christmas Program concluded this season after 43 years of service and reaching over 100,000 people in the St. Joseph area. Volunteers, businesses and residents delivered gifts, clothing and food to families in need.  KQ2
  • The St. Joseph Safety and Health Council will host Safety Town After Dark on Jan. 30 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church (4503 Frederick Ave) and offer adults an engaging experience that includes meals, raffles, games, and activities to support child safety programs.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Performing Arts Association announced a new award honoring donor support by naming the Pat and Carroll Cathey Arts Support Award at its August 2025 board meeting in Saint Joseph. The honor recognizes the couple's long-time advocacy for live local performances.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Following the school district’s re-organization in November — which increased Benton’s enrollment — the school remains in the Midland Empire Conference for 2026–27 and 2027–28, with MEC superintendents set to vote in April on its future placement.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Missouri Western State University hosted its first military suicide prevention training day in St. Joseph to help counselors, law enforcement officers and staff learn to recognize risk factors and support local veterans.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • Benton beat St. Teresa’s Academy in overtime (OT) and Lafayette defeated North Kansas City in Kearney on Wednesday. The teams will face off in the tournament championship game tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.  KQ2
