The St. Joseph Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians donated $5,000 to Second Harvest Community Food Bank Tuesday afternoon — emphasizing their long-standing support and plans to contribute funds during a mid-March St. Patrick’s Day parade when dates are set.

At its Aug. 8 board meeting at the historic Wyeth Tootle Mansion, the St. Joseph Performing Arts Association created the Pat and Carroll Cathey Award to honor donor support for local arts and celebrated former board member Pat Cathey; the award will be given to future supporters.

United Way of Greater St. Joseph invites volunteers to read with students later this month at seven local elementary schools.

The program aims to boost literacy by engaging parents, college students, and retirees (among others) in hands-on reading sessions.

The St. Joseph School District finance committee met Tuesday to review the (KPM) financial audit report, aiming to clear up community misunderstandings and improve funding strategies without a tax increase.

Assistant Superintendent Robert Hedgecorth noted the committee also discussed a potential shift in the district’s high school model.

Benton’s Cardinals won 87-36 over KIPP Legacy Tuesday night in the Cardinal Classic quarterfinal as a 14-0 run set the tone with a 20-5 first quarter lead.

The team will face Central in the semifinals on Thursday night.
