COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Fire Department will honor Battalion Chief Dave Richey at his retirement party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at SJFD's Downtown station (401 S. Seventh St.) after over 36 years of service.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents can join a tour spread over two days on April 21 and 22 that explores Waylande Gregory’s legacy through historic sites in Kansas City, Lawrence, Alma, and Manhattan. Organized by The Friends of the Missouri Theater, the tour costs $150 (reservations close Jan. 30).  St. Joseph Post

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Missouri Western State University launched a regional Small Business Development Center on Jan. 1 to give free counseling and training to small businesses in northwest Missouri — led by Rebecca Lobina and supported by the SBA and local funds.  St. Joseph Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students returned from Christmas break today and are ready to tackle the second half of the school year as the district builds on a strong performance report. Assistant Superintendent Studer said teachers will use the recent assessment results to help set goals for both classrooms and students.  St. Joseph Post
  • St. Joseph Museums and Missouri Western State University will host the 26th Annual Super Science Saturday on Feb. 7 at Remington/Agenstein Hall at MoWest. Attendees will enjoy hands-on STEM activities, live demonstrations, and interactive science adventures — adults pay $5 while children five and under enter free.  KQ2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A DeKalb County resident encountered a mountain lion near her home last spring, and neighbors remain cautious as the Missouri Department of Conservation advises securing pets and livestock while noting that sightings are rare.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Mustangs said Phil Welch Stadium now has smooth concrete in all seating areas and will soon add bleachers & reserved box seats as part of a $1M Capital Improvements Program project, with fans able to reserve tickets by calling 816-279-7856 and upgrades finishing before the 2026 season.  KQ2
